Ped Orthopedic Visit

Yesterday Zeb and I drove 3 hours to his pediatric orthopedic Dr for his 9 month check. When we brought him home in Mar of 07 we took him to be fitted for prosthetics and to a orthopedic Dr in Chicago who didn't Xray and thus putting him in the wrong device causing his tibula to twist and he lost function in his left leg. This started the journey of finding a Dr we could trust and a team who would work with us and answer questions and not treat us like idiots for doing our homework. Zeb had severe leg pain last fall and it was a very rough time for our family trying to figure things out. A Dr at Riley wanted surgery to untwist the bone. another said our son may be autistic and we had some opinions from people who make artificial limbs and braces. In Dec everything fell into place and we took delivery of the right foot and in Jan we found the right Dr. It so paid to fight and ask questions and keep making calls. It also is a wonderful blessing to have a PT who had my back and listened to me cry rant and rave. She helped make calls and fight right alongside of me. Now 9 months later I can report Zeb is doing great. His bones seem to be straightening out and he doesn't have to go back until next year for a 12 month check-up. We are waiting to get the orthotist out here to make some repairs to Zebs foot and things will be AWSOME. We feel so blessed to have a group of wonderful people working with our son to get the best outcome for his life. My advice to any parent who has a gut feeling something isn't quite right is to go with it. You don't have to be a Dr to know keep calling Drs and ask tons of questions. Keep doing it until you are comfortable. It really is worth the effort in the long run for you and your child.
Thank you God for this wonderful blessing for our son!!!!!!!
